Final draft of Script

Sound of school bell. Black screen
Fades into the whiteboard where it says silence, to show that it is a detention room

Dark atmosphere

Camera pans across classroom showing 5 students at their desks looking extremely bored. Showing their individual character through various actions e.g.: basketball player in his uniform playing with a ball. Geek reading, whilst the geek flips the page of the book. Goth listening to loud music with his eyes closed, class clown lying back trying to distract others. A camera pan, until BIANCA’S legs are in the frame, tilts up onto the table and we see a drop of blood on the table, then camera carries on tilting up and we see her face and she is hesitating and she gets up and she leaves the room.

Subtle music

Long shot of her walking out the door, shot turns to a point of view shot, of her walking down the corridors to the toilets then a title comes up and it turns to a birds eye view shot.

She opens the toilet door (close up of her hand) and walks towards the sink. She looks down holding a tissue to her nose and she turns on the tap. She then puts her head up and looks at herself in the mirror, she puts her head down again and when she does so the figure in black comes up behind her, she looks up and sees the figure in the mirror, she then turns slowly around looking shocked towards the camera. After that the titles come up.

examples of our Title sequences

title sequences

The first few minutes of a film should leave an audience to wonder what will happen next and engaged to the film wanting to see more, the title sequences should help to create the atmosphere of the film and the genre of the film.
The titles of the film should help to make the film look more interesting and they should relate to the genre of the film.
For example in ski fi films the titles are normally bright and in block letters, this relates to the genre of the movie.

Sound of school bell. Black screen
Fades into the whiteboard where it says silence, to show that it is a detention room

Dark atmosphere

Camera pans across classroom showing 5 students at their desks looking extremely bored. Showing their individual character through various actions eg: basketball player in his uniform playing with a ball. Geek reading, whilst the geek flips the page of the book she gets a paper cut, but she doesn’t but she doesn’t make a big deal out of it and she carries on reading. Goth listening to loud music with his eyes closed, class clown lying back trying to distract others. A camera pan, until BIANCA is in the frame and she is fidgeting and tapping her pen. She wriggles and then you can see her face,

BIANCA
I’m going toilet

She then leaves her seat looking frustrated

Subtle music

Long shot of her walking out the door. She looks at herself in the door window to see her reflection. Camera bounces back to her and shot turns to a point of view shot, of her walking down the corridors to the toilets then a title comes up and it turns to a birds eye view shot.

She opens the toilet door (close up of her hand) and walks towards the sink. She runs her fingers through her hair, while doing so she looks in the mirror and sees a figure of a person in black behind her in the mirror. She turns her head around seeing no one there. Then there is a close up of her face looking scared. The music goes very squeaky (horror music)
Suddenly goes to a black screen and then the titles come up.

horror film

A horror film is a film that is made to scare the audience. It is usually about death, the supernatural or mental illnesses. Most of these movies include a central villain. Horror movies expand to the emphasis of supernatural agents that bring horror to the world.
One well known directors of the horror genre is Rob Zombie, who has made films such as Halloween, House of 1000 Corpses etc.
Halloween is a horror film because it is about someone who kills people, it actually shows him brutally killing the people and this is shown to the public so it is classified as a horror film.

She panics and slams all the cubicle doors open to reassure herself that no one is around.
She returns back to the sink were she washes her face.

When she washes her face there is a horror music that creates tension and then it suddenly goes to a black screen and then the titles come up.

feedback for my story

I told my group my story and they gave feedback. The theme of the story is vanity, and it’s about listening to parents because they always want the best for their children. It also teaches the target audience that looks are not everything.
They said that I had to make it more modern because it was too much like the olden days with the king and queen and the witches. They said that instead of a prince I should have a good looking boy. They also said that I had to write more about the boy and his Barents background. They said that my disruption in the story was not clear and that I should have something a little bit more dramatic happening in the story because it was too plain.
They also said that I should make the audience more familiar with the girl and her parents.

Halloween

The movie Halloween has a very powerful opening.
At the beginning the music is a scary music, this causes the audience to get scared and creates tension, it shows the audience that the movie will be a horror genre.
The movie opens with a long shot of just a pumpkin, a pumpkin is associated to Halloween which relates to the name of the film. The pumpkin gets closer and closer and the background is black which makes the orange pumpkin stand out, the pumpkin getting closer and closer gives a feeling that someone is out to get you. There is an extreme close up of the pumpkin and then it just disappears, this shows that the characters in the movie will get followed by the evil character and then when it gets you it just disappears.
There is an establishing shot of the setting. We see that it is very dark and the house is white, this shows that it is dark and something scary is about to happen, and the white house stands out to show that the bad thing will happen in that house.
There is a camera tracking, this is to show the audience what is going on.
Then the movie carries on to a couple kissing, this shows that they are together and whilst they are together they are safe. However later the boy hears a noise and then the girl gets killed by the mysterious character. We see camera shots in the killers’ point of view, and we can tell that he has got a mask. When the girl gets killed there is silence to show that something bad has happened in the film and this makes the audience scared and want to know who the killer is.

Ugly and Beautiful

Prince Edward of England lives in a palace with his parents, the king and the queen. Beautiful girls love him and they are always after him, he loves the attention he gets from girls and he already knows that he will marry a very beautiful princess; he just hasn’t met her yet. The king and the queen have arranged his marriage since he was small, but he knows nothing of it. One day the king and queen tell the prince that he will marry Princess Lucy from France, the prince is furious about what his parents told him but because he is a prince he will have to accept for both countries to get along. The prince travels to France to see Princess Lucy, he hopes with all his heart that she is beautiful just like the girl in his dreams.
When he goes to princess Lucy’s palace he is completely disappointed to see that his future wife was the ugliest person he had ever seen. He cant even make himself say hello to the princess because he is too shocked. His father urges him to greet the princess and respect her as looks are not the most important thing in a person. The prince does as he is told and he marries Lucy, however the next day he is stunned to see a beautiful girl sleeping next to him. The girl wakes up and tells Edward that she is Princess Lucy and that many years ago she had put in prison the son of a witch and the witch had cursed her, that she will be very ugly for the rest of her life, unless she marries a prince, then she would turn beautiful again. Lucy said that she thought that she would never marry a prince because no one would love her because she was ugly, but when her parents found out that the queen and king of England had a son they would arrange their marriage because that would interest the king and queen of England, for their countries to get along. The prince was shocked with Lucy’s story and promised her that he would never let anyone harm her in anyway. The Prince finally married the girl of his dreams and the princess was beautiful again and they both lived happily ever after.

The false prince and the true

The false prince and the true is a Portugese fairy tale.
It is about a man who beats up the prince, the prince does not do anything back to him but he just cries. the king finds out and he is very angry that his son did nothing back to the man who beat him up. however he still puts the man on trial in court and was likely to die, but the king let him go whever he wanted to in the city with some guards.
the man was very upset and he tried everything to see what could help him from being sentenced to life, on the last day of his freedom he saw an old woman, she told him that she would tell him what to say in court and save him but only if he would marry her, the man said no at first but when he thought about it, he had no choice so he agreed with the old woman and married her with a priest as their witness.
when the man went to court he told the king that the prince was not his real son but his wife had adopted the prince when the king was at war. he told him that the king had met a woman in a forest and thought that she was very beautiful and married her in secret and put her in a cottage in the forest, she did not know that the king was a king but thought that he was a poor knight. when the woman found out that the king was a king then she left, so when the king went in the cottage the woman was not there anymore. that woman was this mans mother, so he was the kings real son. the king said that the mans story was true and the king said that this man would be the king after the king dies, he was now the prince.
the prince kept his promise and stayed married to the old woman but did not love her.
one day the prince heard a noise and thought it was a robber, he followed the noise and it led to the old womans room, when he looked in it was not an old woman but a very beautiful young girl. the girl told him that she was his wife, but a wicked fairy had cursed her and made her an old woman, then a wizard told her that if she was to marry a prince then she would go back to her own age and body of 15. the wizard had told the woman everything she needed to know about the prince to save him when he was about to go on a trial to get killed.

what makes a good opening for a film

A good opening for a film is made by including many things.
Firstly a producer has to make sure that all the actors in the film are good for the film and they act well. they also have to make sure that the sound is heard clearly by thew viewer.
Secondly, the camera has to be steady because and not shakey because then the quality of the film will not be to it's best standard. In class we saw an opening of a film made by the students last year,Penelope, at the start the camera was shaking and this made me as the viewer see it as poor standard and therefroe it did not interest me to watch it.
In addition we also saw another film made by last years students, that was called Daisy, all the titles and name of the film was hand drwan, this showed that they had put a lot of work into the film, however it made it look as if they had no money at all to spendon the film and it did not attract the viewer.
Also, for a good opening to a film, the continuity of the film has to bee good and everything should flow.
The beginning of the film should also start to show the audience what the rest of the film will be about.
For the beginning of a film to be successful then the actors should have enthusiasm so that the targetaudience is attracted aswell.

workshop 1

CLASS TASK- FILMING

We were told to make a storyboard within 10 minutes in a group of three and then we had to go and shoot the ten shots from the storyboard. This was a difficult task because we didn’t have long to think about what our story should be and we didn’t have long to make a storyboard. So with the time that we had we made a quick storyboard and then we went outside to shoot it. However there because we were not prepared we didn’t have time to think about our location, so we just went outside the classroom, we then realised that other groups had also gone to the same location as they to were not prepares, so whilst we were shooting we would have to stop because other people from the other groups would interrupt us. After shooting everything we noticed that it would have taken us much les time if we had moved to the other end of the school where no one would interrupt us instead of just going right outside the classroom because we thought it would be easier; however that is what other groups thought too, so overall it was harder.
When we were shooting we saw that what we had done in our storyboard was not a good idea and we decided to change some of the shots. This took us time and when it was time to go back to class we had not finished all ten of our shots but only seven. This showed me that the storyboard is crucial to the making of the film because if the storyboard is wrong then we will have to think of some shots on the spot and this would take us a long time and therefore we would not finish on time.
I think that our task was not completed to the success we were hoping for it to be completed.

PRELIM EVALUATION

In this task I worked with Thelma. Throughout the whole task we worked together and shared everything between the two of us. When it came to making the storyboard, we did not have time in lesson to finish it, so we were told by the teacher to exchange phone numbers and meet up during the weekend and finish the task together, however this was not possible because I was going away for the weekend, so we arranged to meet up during our free lessons and finish the storyboard. That is what we id and the storyboard was successfully completed, however we could of made some amendments and next time I would take more time on the storyboard because although ours was completed we could of still made it better, because when it actually came to the filming we realised that we should of changed a party of the storyboard.
We used a storyboard to plan our sequence. We thought of each shot separately and we discussed what shots we should use to actually produce the sequence. Once we made the storyboard we realised that we had to make a shooting schedule because we would waste too much time by shooting one shot at a specific setting, then going to the next setting to shoot the other shot and then going back to the setting we were at the beginning to shoot another shot, so with the shooting schedule we decided that we would shoot the first and third shots one after the other, and we would shoot the second shot after doing the first and third shot so that we don’t waste time, then when it comes to editing we could put the shots in order.
For the shooting of the prelim task we used a XH A1 camera to shoot our prelim task. Before we got the chance to shoot our prelim task we were taught by a teacher how to use the camera, she taught us that first we get the tripod out and we fix it to shoulder length, then we get the camera out and we link it with the tripod, then we make sure that the spirit level is correct, so that the ball is inside the circle, this was so that the camera was at a good angle and that when we were filming we would have a straight shot and not wonky ones. We then placed the battery inside the camera, and then we turned the camera on, after that we put the tape into the camera, we then record. By using the cameras I learnt that you have to be very careful with them and I also learnt a lot of functions, such as, it has 3 different places on the camera where you could zoom in and out. It also has 2 places where you could turn it on and off, and many more.
When planning and shooting we had many factors to take in to account, such as timing, if everyone could come at a certain time to shoot the prelim task, we had to search for the location Recce and if it would be ok for us to shoot in that specific area. Once we had the confirmation from the teacher that we were allowed to shoot outside, we realised that because we were shooting outside, people in the school would be walking around the school and therefore they would ruin our shots because we could not shoot with other people there. so we decided to shoot after school where the students would have gone home, even though it was after school there were after school clubs and students were still walking through the school and we had to keep stopping the tape and re-shoot, if I had the chance to do the task again then I would choose another location where we would not get interrupted by other people. When we were shooting we realised that we had a lack of continuity because we had a shot of Rachel with her hand on her face, then we had a shot of Sharon speaking and by the time we had taken the camera back to Rachel her hand was no longer on her face, so this was a lack of continuity and when we realised we had to have another take of the shot.
Overall, our sequence was successful because once we had made all the retakes the film came out well, however if I had the chance to do it again then I would change the location because we are in a school and people move around all over the school and therefore they disrupt our filming.
From completing the prelim task I have learnt that to be a film producer an actress is not as easy as it looks, I have learnt that for everything to go well then you have to work well with your group and manage your time correctly. I have also learnt that you will have to teach your cast everything before it comes to the actual shooting day, so rehearsals, so that when it comes to the shooting day they know what to do and everything goes to plan. Another thing that I have learnt is that although there are some parts that could be done better and although film making is frustrating, when it actually goes well, it could be fun. Our sequence was successful, however we had a jump cut and that was a problem for us, but we made the shot shorter and it made it look natural.
I found that the editing was difficult because it took us a long time and we had many problems. One problem was that the volume didn't work, but then our teacher told us that it would work if we used headphones then it would work, and it did. Another problem was the jump shot at the end of the sequence, we realised that because we had a jump shot first, we went straight to a long shot, and this looked bad. So we trimmed the shot and then this flowed from one shot to another.

Independent film

How to make and independent film

How and Why is it possible that anyone can become a film maker today?

Thes days anyone can become a film maker because of independent films. these are films thast are made by ordinary people who are not part of the big production comapnies.
these producers are amature producers, they are able to make a film because cameras are now being sold at affordable prices, and therefore anyone can buy them and make an independent film with it. They dont need famous actors to star in their films, they could just get their family and friends to act in the film. They can sort out all the lighting and special effects from computers. Independent films can eaily be seen because they can be put on youtube and there are some specific websites that sponsor independent films and therefore people can watch them.
For independent films time is less of an issue because the producers have only that to think about and they do not have a deadline for the film to be made, so they take their time, money is also not an issue for them because they can make their film in their house, or at a place where they dont have to pay for it, they wont have to pay for the cast because they will get their friends and family is necessary, and they wont have to pay for the editng companies because they can edit it themselves on their computers, they will also not have to pay for the screening of the film, because they can put it on youtube or anyother free sites that offer to sponsor their independent films.

pictures taken in lesson

In lesson we got in i a group of three, me Yasmin and Ester. We then had to make a storyboard of something very simple. We decided as a group that we would take some picture that would tell the story of, a girl sitting bored, we took a mid close up of Yasmin, this was so that we coulld show that she was bored. We then took a big close up of mu hand on the door, to make it look as if I was knocking on the door , this was because that is what we wanted the viewer to see directly. after that we took a an extreme close up of Yasmin's eyes to show that she was shocked. Then we took a mis shot of Yasmin standing up, this was so that people could see that she was getting up to answer the door. We then took a long shot of Yasmin walking towards the door, this was do that the viewer couold see the surroundings nd see where Yasmin was. We then took a high angle mid shot of Yasmin about to open the door, this was so that the viewer could see what Yasmin was doing clearly and their eyes would go to yasmin straight away because she had dominance in the image. After that we took an overtheshoulder imang of me and Yasmin this was so that the viewer could see that two people were communicting. Then we took a mid long shot of me and Yasmin hugging this was effective because we would both have dominance in the image and therefore the viewer would look at both of us. Then we hade a long shot of me and Yasmin walking, this took upo the mid third of the frame and therefore it would catch the viewers eyes. Our last image was a two shot of me and Yasmin, this was effective because it showed two people having a conversation and it draws the viewers attentin.

summer holiday homework

The TV drama that I have chosen is Eastenders.
Eastenders is a soap and it has been running for over thirty years.
in Eastenders they have many characters, for example the Mitchell family, one of which is called Phill Mitchell. Phill has joined Eastenders since 1990 and he used to be a character with a very dark side, however recently the return of his son Ben has shown a softer side to him.
Eastenders is located in Albert Square.
they use many props in Eastenders, such as furniture in the homes of every character in the soap. this is effective because it makes the soap look real and therefore gives the sense of everyday life.
We see many close up's of characters faces in Eastenders, this is effective because it shows the characters facial expression.
In Eastenders a lot goes on as it has been running for thirty years, however the story line is always interesting for the audience because they have everyday life on there, and the audience can relate to it.
They have a theme tune which is played at the start and at the end of Eastenders.
In Eastenders they use casual colours and ambient lighting to make it look like everyday life.

Aforeign film that I have studied is the Mexican film 'Amores Perros'
One of the characters in this film is Octavio and he is a man who has fallen in love with his brothers wife, Susana, and he would do anything to be with her and get her away from his brother because his brother beats her up. Hec would do anything for Susana. He had just made enough money to run away with Susana, however Susana took that money and run away with her husband (Octavios brother.) Octavio then becomes very angry and he turns into a violent person and more tragic things happen to him in the film.
This film is located in many areas such as, a dog racing place, modeling studio etc.
One of the props used in the film is the car in which the accident happens in.
A shot that is used in the film is an overtheshouolder shot, when Octavio is speaking to Susana, this is effective because it shows that two people are communicating.
In the film a lot of non diagetic sound is used, when they are playing a song that is not directly from the film.
